Are you an interior designer and not to sure how to specify a vertical garden? Here are some basic design issues that you may need to consider:
1. Light – is there enough light to allow a plant to grow? If not it is possible to artificially light plants with specially designed grow lights. Consider the visual impacts of the grow lights on the overall design. Also be aware that light needs to fall on all the plants. Any species left in the shadow of another may struggle.
2. Water – how is water going to reach the plants? Is there enough water pressure to reach the top planting tier? Where is the water going to drain
3. Controls – are there any town planning issues? building requirements? heritage issues? Check with your local town planning department.
4. Maintenance – is the client able to maintain the vertical garden? Is it possible to access the tallest part of the garden? Is it safe to regularly water the garden?
